  • What is Cable Pull?
Short Pull, Long Pull or Campagnolo? ↓

Short Pull: This version is designed to work with road levers, including SRAM, Shimano and combined shifter/brake levers. It also works great with the Canti Lever, our short-pull flat bar brake lever.

Long Pull: This version is designed to work with long-pull brake levers, such as the kind that work with V or linear-pull brakes. Our Love Levers work especially well with this model. It also works well with long-pull drop bar levers, such as the Cane Creek Drop V.

Campagnolo: Campy uses a super-short cable pull, so this Klamper uses a super short Campy-only actuator arm.

Product Story

When we set out to build this brake, nearly five years ago, we started with a clean slate. Then we tried all manner of wacky ideas but eventually wound our way back to the tried and true ball bearing in a ramp system. From there we concentrated on the details. We made the balls bigger for smoothness and increased pad travel. We hardened the steel where the balls contact the ramps. We used three hardened steel pins to locate the pad actuator. Instead of a plastic thrust washer we used a flat needle roller thrust bearing.

Then we moved onto the caliper body. This took countless drawing revisions and probably 20 prototypes. We added “fangs” to the inner backing plate for stiffness, and beefed up the outer caliper body where needed.

The pad adjusters went through a similar process. We wanted easy adjustability but staying power. For that we designed detents into the circumference, located with spring ball plungers.

We believe this is the best mechanical caliper ever made for a bicycle. It’s available in Long Pull, Short Pull, and Campagnolo pull. Just change the actuating arms, which are available separately here.

We decided not to make rotors. That’s a manufacturing process we do not do, and they are readily available. Floating rotors with large buttons (like Hope) might rub against the caliper, but we’ve had great results with Shimano Ice-Tech, Sram, Avid, and most other rotor brands. The included pads are Kool Stop sintered metallic.

As always, allow a couple short rides to bed in the pads. Around the 3rd ride, these brakes really start to BITE!

Replacement pads can be found HERE.

Please note that all of our brakes are sold per wheel.

I know, it’s not that big of a deal, but it does c I know, it’s not that big of a deal, but it does come in handy and look real elegant. Our Klamper-inspired topcaps now come in a version with a built-in 5mm spacer. Some carbon fork manufacturers specify it, and sometimes you just wanna keep a touch of extra steerer tube around for adjustments or resale value. Anyways, The Rook is now live on the website! ♟️
We’re SUPER excited about this new trail network o We’re SUPER excited about this new trail network opening just up the mountain from us above Butte Meadows! Two trails are already finished, with 5 or 6 more in the works, and an eventual plan to connect this to the @sierratrails Connected Communities trails. Yeah, this is big!
So… we asked @the.scorps if he’d be willing to donate artwork for a fundraiser T-Shirt, and he doodled up this fun drawing of the Colby Mountain Lookout. These are VERY limited edition, so if you want a sweet rare McNally shirt while raising money for a killer trail system in Lassen National Forest, head to our website quick before they’re gone!

It’s no secret our water bottles are made in the U It’s no secret our water bottles are made in the USA by @specialized_custom and it’s also no secret we’re passionate about recycling around here. Well, they just started offering a couple new bottles made entirely from 100% recycled material. While we aren’t crazy about putting more plastic out in the world, it may as well be 100% recycled AND recyclable, so we’re offering this option in our Dune Buggy bottle, in this Teal color. Soooo…. Did this thirst trap of @jxrad trick you into reading this far? ♻️
Happy Friday! Paul designed our first seatpost (th Happy Friday! Paul designed our first seatpost (the “Tall & Handsome”) with 26mm of setback to accommodate Brooks saddles, and while it’s become a cult classic, we’ve had requests for years now for something of the same high quality in a zero offset. We took the extra design time to dial in every feature WE want to see in a simple, reliable, beautiful seatpost, then machined it to our super high tolerances right here in Chico California. Head over to our website and get to know this elegant new family member, it’s in stock and shipping now!
