Racer Medium

The Racer Medium is the leaner, meaner version of the Racer. It’s got fantastic stopping power and thanks to the very stiff and short arms it modulates that power better than any brake we’ve ever used.

Product Story

The Racer Medium is offered in both a center mount and a braze-on configuration. The Braze-On Racer Medium mounts to a pair of center pull brake bosses positioned on the fork or seat stays at a specific width and distance from the axle. While it can be more difficult to have a frame fitted with these specially positioned brake bosses, it makes for a much stiffer and cleaner looking brake.

It is important to note that the Braze-On Racer Medium does not mount to brake bosses in the standard cantilever position, and it will not work with U-brake bosses. Please refer to our support article on Braze-On Center Pull Brakes for more information. Reach is determined by the height of the center pull brake bosses, which can be positioned by a frame builder to match up with 700c, 650b, or 26″ wheels.

The Center Mount version of the Racer Medium features an additional bridge piece that runs between the pivots and allows the Racer Medium to mount to frames with a single brake mounting hole above the tire. The option is given for a shorter recessed bolt to work with modern frames, or a longer non-recessed bolt that works with older frames. In this setup the Racer Medium is a medium (or “standard”) reach brake with a range of 47 to 57mm.

The Racer Medium come with all necessary hardware: mounting bolts, straddle wire, cable carrier, and a pair of salmon Kool Stop Thinline brake pads.

Between the arms there is enough clearance to fit a 45mm fender and a 32mm wide tire. We think this is a perfect combination for an all-around do-everything road bike if there ever was one. As a bonus, the brake will not pinch the side of the fender like dual pivot brakes do.

Please note that all of our brakes are sold per wheel.

It’s no secret our water bottles are made in the U It’s no secret our water bottles are made in the USA by @specialized_custom and it’s also no secret we’re passionate about recycling around here. Well, they just started offering a couple new bottles made entirely from 100% recycled material. While we aren’t crazy about putting more plastic out in the world, it may as well be 100% recycled AND recyclable, so we’re offering this option in our Dune Buggy bottle, in this Teal color. Soooo…. Did this thirst trap of @jxrad trick you into reading this far? ♻️
Happy Friday! Paul designed our first seatpost (th Happy Friday! Paul designed our first seatpost (the “Tall & Handsome”) with 26mm of setback to accommodate Brooks saddles, and while it’s become a cult classic, we’ve had requests for years now for something of the same high quality in a zero offset. We took the extra design time to dial in every feature WE want to see in a simple, reliable, beautiful seatpost, then machined it to our super high tolerances right here in Chico California. Head over to our website and get to know this elegant new family member, it’s in stock and shipping now!

Nope, we aren’t having a Black Friday sale. Making Nope, we aren’t having a Black Friday sale. Making everything ourselves, the hard way, in the U.S., means we don’t make giant margins we can chop in half for the sake of a trendy capitalist holiday. We charge what we have to, to pay our staff, keep the lights on, keep our old Toyotas running, and bring our aid station up to the mountains 3 times a year. We know our parts aren’t cheap, but they’re meant to be reliable, serviceable, and last a lifetime.
I mean, sure, we DO want you to buy our parts, but not because you’re bored, or want some kind of brand identity status, or just because it’s the biggest shopping day of the year.
We want you to buy our parts when you can afford it, and you’ve been riding your bike enough that you think it just might finally be time to invest in some components that you can rely on, service, and move from bike to bike. We’ll be here when you’re ready. But in the meantime, let’s delete our shopping cart and get out for a long ride on a nice day like this! ✌️
